Dupree Law’s focus is on Maritime Law. We primarily represent injured workers who may be entitled to compensation under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and its sister Acts, including the Defense Base Act, Non-appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act, Outer continental Shelf Lands Act, and the Jones Act. We try to focus on the major port areas of California, but do take on DBA clients and special cases in other areas of the country.
Dupree law owes it roots to a lot of good attorneys who have provided great mentoring. Among them, Dorsey Redland is without question still the greatest influence. Though starting at a time when female attorneys were very few in number, she became not only successful but hugely respected for her trial skills. She was prolific, with some suggestion of more than 360 jury trials in her long career. I learned under her tutelage from age 18 to 35. The greatest lessons learned were: hard work, good research, and tenacity in support of the client’s cause. These continue to be Dupree Law’s lodestar.
I caution everyone about using information on the web in selecting an attorney. Good lawyers are more in demand than they have time. In 2017, I have finally put up a web site just to clear out some of the clutter that was on the web, and to address complaints that we were hard to find and much of the available information was in error.
The recommendations of people with experience in this specialty area of practice, including former clients, mean far more than a lawyer’s self-proclaimed greatness on a flashy web site. And as with humans in general, past results are the best predictor of future performance. If you are selecting an attorney, use the web to learn what the attorney has actually done, not how good he or she claims to be. For instance, do a search on the web site maintained by the Office of Administrative Law Judges On the top right of the opening pages is a search box.
